Design Highlights

Everything around you has the potential to be designed and redesigned into something really cool, eye-catching, and functional. Artwork inspires and connects us. Design (however subliminal or obvious) blends creativity with everything we touch and see. These are some of my favorite design ventures.

Black Coffee Photo Co.

I had the privilege of working on some logo roughs for my dear friend’s photography company! Here is a little bit of the sketching process that ultimately resulted in the end collaboration, which is shown on their website.

Of the two founders at BlkCoffeePhoto, one is my very best friend from high school. Obviously, I’ve watched her build her career from nothing and she continues to be a huge inspiration to me. It was an honor to get to be a part of this creative process.

I’ve never met someone who is so motivated on keeping their clients happy, and has worked so hard on bettering their craft. They were a dream to work with, and hopefully someday we can reverse the tides and I can get some of their photos up on my site!

Melissa Freelend for NPPD

Maybe there was no getting around it growing up with the surname “Green,” but I’m a passionate environmentalist. I have a consistent fear that people are aware, or are too apathetic about the direction we’re pushing our earth into.

I met Melissa at my peak of  feeling powerless, and it couldn’t have been timed better. She said that instead of worrying about a MadMax style apocalypse, she was running for Nebraska Public Power District board of directors. She was prepared to put herself out there to try and make a difference, so I got on board to help get her elected.

I did a lot of door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and volunteer coordinating, but my favorite stunt we pulled was a Zoltar themed booth at a non-profit Halloween party. For free, guests could come have their “fortunes” read by Zoltar (none other than yours truly… complete with beard for authenticity).

These cards displayed her name, office she was running for, the date of the election, and a unique prediction for each individual card.

(Temporary stock photo until some authentic photos can be pulled of my long forsaken and half lost camera)

University Throwbacks

Always entertaining to turn back time and look how far your design style has come. Here’s some of my projects from University of Nebraska at Kearney that I had the most fun with. Wouldn’t it be cool to dust them off and give them a fresh look!

These projects all sort of hint subliminally at who I am as a person. I have an ongoing love affair with moody grunge, and French philosophy. I like reading FDA standardized ingredient labels, love a good costume party, and drink way too much coffee.

These projects were opportunities to shamelessly indulge my guilty pleasures and quirks while building something totally new.
